Solid silver appointments survived the pillaging by Napoleon Bonaparte when the priest agreed to a trade. The church provided Napoleon twice the weight of the silver in the Cathedral in silver taken from other churches. He took that and all of the gold his forces could pry from the walls of the Cathedral.
